This guided tour of the Hôtel de la Marine will take you back almost 250 years. In fact, as early as 1789, following the French Revolution, the Ministry of the Navy moved into the Hôtel de la Marine, formerly Garde-Meuble royal. 

Initially, the Ministry only moved part of the way into the building, and it wasn't until 10 years later that it occupied the whole of it. This marked the beginning of 2 centuries of the administration's omnipresence in the former palace, now known as : Hôtel de la Marine.

It was after the Ministry had left that the Hôtel de la Marine was entrusted to the Center des monuments nationaux (CMN). Indeed, their main objective is to restore the building to its 17th-century aura. Renovation work began in 2017, with a first phase to restore the building's original volumes. The project was completed in 2020, at a cost of a staggering 130 million euros.
